4 Smart Ways to Upcycle

According to the website Hipcycle,  “upcycling is the process of converting old or discarded materials into something useful and often beautiful.” For example, one pretty common upcycling project is to turn an old pair of jeans into a pair of shorts, but people are doing far more creative things than that, just take a look at these four projects:

1. Pillowcase Garment Bags from Better Homes and Gardens; with just a little effort you can turn an old pillowcase into something that will protect your clothes. This is an easy DIY project and just about anyone can do it, even those who lack the craft gene.

2. Upcycled Folding Chairs from Punk Projects. If you have old folding chairs you no longer use, this is a great way to repurpose them. This is also a good idea if you have a small space and need more seating when visitors stop by; if you don’t happen to have any folding chairs lying around, you can often find them at garage sales and second hand shops.

3. Upcycled Dresser Drawers from Babble. There are several great ideas provided, but pay special attention to the “sandwich station” because it offers a solution for storing essential kitchen items, including rubber bands, saran wrap, paper towels, and zip lock bags.

4. Flower Vase from Could I Have That. With this project you truly will turn garbage into something beautiful. Rather than throwing out your old coffee containers repurpose them with some chrome spray paint and then use them to show off fresh flowers!

Which upcycling project will you try first?
